The car door operator drives both the car doors and the landing doors via a clutch (vane/skate). Older mechanical and DC-motor operators wear, drift out of adjustment and trigger the dominant share of in-service callouts. Modern variable-frequency door operators self-learn the door profile, monitor door force and integrate light curtains for safer, quieter operation.
Symptoms we look for
- Doors that ‘nudge’ open and closed repeatedly
- Audible grinding or rattling on opening/closing
- Landing doors not latching cleanly
- Trapped-passenger callouts where the door is the root cause
- Mechanical safety edges instead of full-height light curtains
What we do
- Door operator replacement (Fermator, Wittur, Sematic and similar open platforms).
- Landing-door interlock and lock-monitor renewal to EN 81-20.
- Full-height infrared light curtain (CEDES, Janus, Memco) replacing mechanical edges.
- Door track, hanger and pickup re-profiling to remove the most common failure modes.
- Door-zone monitoring and re-levelling integrated with the controller.
Lifecycle expectation
A door modernisation alone typically removes 50–70% of recurring breakdown callouts and extends maintenance intervals. Light curtains eliminate the common ‘trapped finger’ incident class.
