Summary

The UK Regulations transposing the EU Lifts Directive — covering the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of new lifts. Schedule 18 sets out the quality assurance routes installers and modernisers must follow.

Who must comply

Lift installers, safety component manufacturers and importers placing equipment on the UK market.

Key requirements

  • Conformity with the essential health and safety requirements in Schedule 1.
  • Certified quality system under one of Schedules 9–14 (most modernisers operate to Schedule 18: full quality assurance).
  • UKCA marking and Declaration of Conformity.
  • Technical documentation retained for 10 years.
